Eyes on the Prize!

Brian sprung (sprang?) 2 pieces of news on me yesterday:

#1, he has decided to have Lasik eye surgery (April 26th). I'm a little sad about this because I think he looks so cute in his glasses (see photo, taken in the hospital after Chase was born)!

#2, he is going to be honored at an awards banquet at NIU April 13th for being named Doctoral Student of the Year! I'm so proud!

We'll keep you posted on both!

Goodbye Chris Sligh

So last night Chris Sligh was eliminated on American Idol. I agreed with America's decision. I thought he picked a great song for his voice Tuesday night, but he wasn't quite on beat (and I'm anal about that stuff), which has been a pretty consistent struggle for him. I also think he was such a fun person, but it never shined through in his singing. I wish he had shown his personality more in his performances. It might have helped him out.

As for the bottom 3, I agreed with Haley but I'm not so sure about Phil. I go back and forth on my opinion of him but I didn't think he was one of the worst this week.

Anyway, until next week! CW.... OUT!

Website/Blog Updates

A couple website updates....

First, I added "Post Categories" to the right side of this blog if you want to filter posts by content (click "Photos" to see all posts containing photos, "Chase" to see all posts about Chase, etc.).

Second, the entire contents of the following pages on www.theworthams.com have been added to this blog in original date order:
Those 2 pages will soon disappear from our main site. If you find links to them anywhere on our website or blog, please let me know so I can delete them.

Landon James Klimek

Around Christmas I got a letter from an old friend from high school, Kelly Klimek, that her little brother, Andy, and his wife were pregnant with their second child. Though their first child was born completely healthy and lives a perfectly normal life, ultrasound photos showed that their second had multiple birth defects and health problems.

Landon was born December 28th and lived only 12 days. I just got an email from Kelly that she and her husband are walking for the March of Dimes in Washington, DC (where they live). Here's more information from her email:

"I invite you to visit our March of Dimes page at www.walkamerica.org/landonjames to read more about Landon's impact on our lives and to make a donation to help assist this noble cause."

Visit the link, read Landon's story, and make a donation if you can. Here is an excerpt from the Klimek family Christmas letter, written before Landon was born:

"[Andy and Sarah] are expecting a little boy, Landon, in just a couple of weeks. However, Landon has many deformities and fetal anomalies; so he may not survive long. We have all been to hell and back listening to the doctors deliver bad news upon bad.... September 28th [was] the day we found out about Landon's one "little" problem: cleft palate.... On Monday, October 2, Andy and Sarah went to the specialists in Grand Rapids and found out that the baby also has a serious heart defect, spina bifida, missing kidney, all of his organs are on the wrong side of his body and the list goes on. A couple of weeks later we were told he also has a club foot and something wrong with the palms of his hands."

I am in tears right now just thinking about how incredibly lucky we are. I cannot even imagine....

Family Visit and a Trip to the Zoo!

We had a fun weekend! We got to spend a few days with Brian's parents (pictured here with Chase), who were kind enough to babysit Saturday while Brian and I went to the city with friends Nicole and Bart to see The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.

Click here to see how little Chase was the last time his Grandma and Grandpa W saw him!

Today the weather was so gorgeous we decided to spend the day outside and took Chase to the zoo (his favorite part was getting fed)!

Photos of both Elmer & Sheila's visit and the zoo trip are now posted in our Photo Album!

Goodbye Stephanie

I'm an American Idol fanatic. I must have my fix every week! So I've decided to write a little blurb about how I feel about the outcome of each week's results show when another Idol contestant is voted off.

This week Stephanie got the ax. I agreed with America's decision. I was a little weirded out by her because in the beginning I thought she was one of the best, but I feel like over the last few weeks she slipped. This week's performance was VERY pitchy and I wasn't impressed. I originally thought she would go further (especially since the guys are so unimpressive this year - I thought for sure some of them would go first), but I never thought she would win so I'm OK with her going home. I was a little surprised to see Chris R in the bottom 2 because I thought there were more deserving individuals who were safe this week, but he'll eventually go anyway, too.

New Toys!

Chase has gotten a lot of new toys over the last couple weeks. The first was a bouncer, after we saw how much he liked the one at daycare. The second was a new gym that gives him more room on the sides to roll over if he should decide to do that (he's so close!), and the third was a fun little "chair" that lets him sit upright (which is how he prefers to view the world these days). We finally used up the last of the gift cards!

3 Months

I was just on my friend Liza Anderson's blog and she posts a photo every month of her son next to the same stuffed animal so you can see his growth! I love the idea so I'm copying it. :) Here is Chase at 3 months old with the giant teddy bear his Aunt Jen and Cousin Ryan gave him!

Eventful Weekend

Friday was Chase's 3-month birthday!

And on his "birthday" Brian and Chase were involved in a car accident. Don't panic: Everyone is OK. It was scary but it's all OK. Someone rear-ended Brian in a construction area on the highway. Brian's car is damaged but it isn't anything unrepairable. We're just glad Chase is OK.

One of the biggest reasons we know Chase isn't scarred for life is because the very next day he was laughing! Now over the past few weeks we have had moments when Chase would do something that made us say, "I think that was a laugh," but yesterday he LAUGHED. I mean he REALLY laughed.

We were in JC Penney's to find Brian some new belts. He was trying some on and I had his old belt slung over the handle of Chase's stroller. Neither of us were really paying much attention to him until I randomly turned around to see him smiling at the belt. We laughed, wondering what he possibly could have been thinking about, when all of a sudden he laughed! And then he laughed again... and again.... I started jingling the belt buckle and the boy burst into hysterical laughter. It was the most magical sound I have ever heard. We've been trying to get him to do it again ever since but apparently we're just not as funny as Brian's belt!

March Madness

We have a basketball fan on our hands. Last night no matter what I did to distract him, Chase craned his neck to watch the games on TV. I have never seen him like that before! There were seriously times he turned to look almost directly behind him, he wanted to watch so badly. And Brian just called to say he's been glued to the games on TV all afternoon. *sigh* I have TWO of them!!

Chase and Dad Talk Man-to-Man

Chase, over the last view days, has suddenly become a jabber-jaw! Check out this short clip of him having a little chat with his dad:

Curves

So yesterday I joined Curves. Time to do something about the fact I can't fit into any of my pre-pregnancy clothes! It's even more depressing that I can't even get my wedding rings on anymore! I miss them terribly. I haven't been able to wear them since last September.

Now, I don't have a good track record when it comes to going to the gym but I just finished my 1-week free trial and I feel pretty good about Curves (*knock on wood*). It's a very unintimidating environment, which is exactly what I need. We'll see what happens. I was hesitant to post anything just in case I failed, but maybe this will make me more accountable? We shall see!

Everyone please cross your fingers that I can stick with this. Operation HOT MOM is underway!

Beautiful Weather and Beautiful Sleep

It was a beautiful day here yesterday so we were finally able to take Chase outside for an extended period of time. We walked around an outdoor mall and it was so gorgeous. We did a little shopping, including buying Chase a pair of swim trunks and a sun hat at Baby Gap (thanks to Dusty & Sarah's gift certificate!) for our trip to California this summer for my brother's wedding. He just NEEDED some adorable beachwear. ;)

And all that shopping must have tired him out because Chase slept completely through the night for the first time last night! Aaahhhhhhhh....

Playing with Grandma!

Check out this short video clip of Chase playing with Grandma K while we were in Alma the weekend of February 24th!

Wiggle Worm!

Our new entertainment in the mornings is seeing where in his crib Chase has wriggled himself to. In just an hour and a half this morning (between 4:30 & 6:00am), Chase managed to wriggle out of his sleep positioner and perpendicular to how he was positioned originally! Here are before and after pictures taken this morning....

New Obsession

I have a new obsession: Mediabee. It's this awesome FREE family calendar you can download to your home computer and access via the internet (or email or cell phone!) anywhere, and all designated family members can access it the same way with their own usernames/passwords. There are tons of other features, too.

Brian rolls his eyes at me but with his ever-changing teaching/school schedule and my Soapbox theatre stuff (plus having to coordinate our lives around Chase now!), this calendar is saving my life! If it sounds like something that could save yours, too, check it out at www.mediabee.com!

The video posted on 2/17 (click here to go directly to it) is now working if you want to check it out! I have another coming soon (whenever I get a chance to download it from my camera)!

What a BIG BOY!!!!

Chase slept in his crib all by himself last night! For those of you who don't know, we had to wean Chase out of our bed/ bedroom. In the beginning the child would NOT sleep without us... he would just scream if we didn't hold him (the attached photo shows a typical nap from week 1). So we had to buy a co-sleeper for our bed. We used that for awhile, then transitioned him to a cradle beside our bed, and last night we crossed our fingers and attempted the crib (knowing it could possibly be a rough night). Chase did GREAT. We had to run in there every so often to put him back to sleep when he woke up but not as often as we thought we'd have to. WHAT A VICTORY!!!!

Ladies Man

Well, Chase had fun at daycare yesterday. They said he was an angel for them and they were all sad that they were going to have to wait a whole week to see him again!

We have a ladies man on our hands, ladies and gentlemen....
