Chloe: 1 Month

It's hard to believe Chloe is 1 month old already!  Keeping with tradition, here is her 1 Month photo with the "growth chart bear!"

More photos of her first month are in our Photo Album if you're interested!

Deja Vu

Something tells me we have gone over this before.

But this time Daddy found a beautiful, pristine white washcloth for Chase to use to clean it up (*sigh*):

I didn't realize which washcloth he had in his hand until it was too late! And then I just had to roll my eyes. If you see a beautiful white surface colored dark purple, you know a boy is behind it. I just didn't realize I had to ask which ONE!

I'm glad there is another girl around now to share eye rolls with in the future!

Conversations with a 3-Year-Old: The Blame Game

Chase has this game he loves to play on his activity table in the play room upstairs.  He zooms his cars down the length of the table so they fly off the end.  Well, the table is about a foot away from the wall and a window, so we have a rule that he has to catapult the cars off the opposite end of the table, so they don't hit the wall/window.  Make sense?  Well today I noticed there were marks on the wall under the window.

Me: Chase, how did those marks get on the wall?

Chase: From the cars.

Me: Chase, maybe that's why I told you to use the other end of the table? (Insert that universal mom furry eyeball look here)

Chase: (Insert deer in the headlights look here, followed by cricket chirps while he thought, "Oh, no....  Uhhhhhh....  What do I do?  What do I do?  Ooh, I know...!")  Grandma did it.

Busted, Grandma!

Birthday Party

Chase went to his friend Nathan's splash pad birthday party yesterday and he had so much fun!

I turned around at one point and saw this hilarious sight:

Now THAT'S entertainment!

Chloe's 2nd Doctor's Appointment

Chloe had another doctor's appointment today to have some blood drawn for some random test required by the state (details, shmetails).  She was one day too young to have it done at her first appointment.  We did get a weight update while we were there.  She is now 7lb 10oz and the doctor says she looks fantastic.

I got a glimpse into a possible personality difference between Chloe and Chase today.  When they poked Chase for the first time as a newborn he gave this pathetic lip-quivering cry that made me bawl.  It was like, "Mommy, I am hurting....  Please help me!"  But when the nurse poked Chloe today her reaction was more like, "You BITCH."  I actually laughed a little.

We'll see if that is any indication of her personality as she gets older!  Because Chase is still the same lip-quivering "Mommy, I'm hurting.... Please help me" child, 3 1/2 years later.  Ha ha!

Lazy Days

We have had a lot of lazy days around the house the past couple of weeks!

Today Brian took Chase to the pool for a little while and when they got back we all sat out on the back porch to enjoy a brewing thunderstorm.

Chloe really seemed to love the fresh air!

We also saw the biggest rainbow I had probably ever seen! I couldn't fit the whole thing in my camera's frame. These pictures don't do the colors justice, but you can at least get an idea of the size!

Chloe has another doctor's appointment tomorrow, so I'll be sure to post an update on her stats then!

Conversations with a 3-Year-Old: The Origin of Stink

I walked into Chase's room yesterday and noticed it didn't smell great.

Me: Ew, it stinks in here!
Chase: Yeah.
Me: What is that smell?
Chase: My butt.
Me: Why?
Chase: Because I have a butthole and poop comes out of it.

No, Chase did not poop in his room.  He was just informing me that his butt, because poop comes out of it from time to time, could be stinking up the room.  This kid makes me laugh!

Tennis Outing

Brian has gotten back into tennis this summer (he loved playing in high school and decided to pick it up again for fun).  Today he was in a low-key tennis tournament, so "the kids" (why does it feel so weird to say that?) and I tagged along to watch.  Chase and Chloe were awesome.  Chloe slept the entire time (only woke up to eat and then passed right out again) and Chase was just perfect.  Brian played great and we got to meet some cool people, too.  It was a great outing and it felt good to get out of the house!

Chloe's First Bath

We gave Chloe her first bath tonight, and Chase was SO excited to help.  We were laughing so hard as he constantly got tangled under our feet while we tried to get all the bath stuff together.  He was also SHOUTING everything in sheer excitement.  I thought he might like to help, but I had no idea how thrilled he would be to do so!  Chloe, on the other hand, did not share his enthusiasm.  Here are some pics!

(Do you like my leaf edit? Ha ha!)

Basketball Star in the Making

Chase LOVES to play basketball.  Every time we pick him up from daycare he is playing basketball in the gym.  They say that's all he wants to do.  He loves to dribble balls in our hallway at home, too.  I am really impressed with how long this boy can dribble.  I'm no expert on what 3-year-olds are supposed to be able to do physically, but the fact that Chase can dribble longer than I can impresses me (OK, those of you who know me well know that's not a huge feat, since I can't dribble to save my life... but whatever).  Here is a little video clip of him dribbling in the hall.  It isn't his most impressive dribbling record, but it's a good one!  Facebook users, click "View Original Post" to see this video:

I think we're going to have to get this boy a basketball hoop!

Fun in the Yard

Tonight we got a nice break from the extreme Texas summer heat and took advantage of the nice weather by heading outside to play ball with Chase.

(I played too, but I am not ready to be in front of the camera!)

Chloe was a great cheerleader:

Be prepared for lots of low-key activity posts this summer. Without them things are going to get very boring around here!

Chloe's First Week

Chloe is now 1 week old and she's doing great.  She had her first appointment with the pediatrician yesterday and she is now 6lb 13oz (10-25th percentile) and 20" long (50th percentile).  Here are some photos of her first week:

You gotta love this drama queen pose:

Chase just loves his baby sister...

...and her toys!

He is such a good helper, too:

P.S. This is my third update post of the day.  Check out the previous two entries if you haven't already!

Fun with Grandma and Grandpa K

My parents left today and it's so quiet around here!  It was wonderful to have them visit.  My mom was such an amazing help, taking care of Chase while we were at the hospital, helping entertain Chase while we tended to Chloe, and tending to Chloe while we entertained Chase!  My dad drove down after Chloe was born and he was also a big help, fixing one of Brian's sprinkler heads, washing our windows (which was SO necessary!) and taking care of other odd jobs around the house.

But even with all the work going on around the house, we still managed to have some fun while they were here.  Here are a few highlights!  We went swimming....

We also played in the backyard a few times.  We got Chase a sprinkler, but he didn't really want the water to touch him.  Here he is, trying to get a ball without getting wet (he even put on sunglasses so water wouldn't get in his eyes):

He then decided it would make a good drinking fountain:

Grandma and I got hot on the back porch so we conned him into gathering water from the sprinkler to dump on our feet!

So then, even though he didn't want to get wet from the sprinkler, he decided it would be OK to fill a storage bin full of water and climb inside!  He called it his new pool:

Since we will be sitting at home a lot of the summer with the new baby, I have a feeling Chase will have lots of sprinkler days! It definitely keeps him entertained. He does everything BUT run around in the sprinkler, but he loves it anyway.

More photos are posted in our Photo Album if you're interested!

P.S.  I am doing several update posts today.  Check out the previous 4th of July post if you haven't already!

4th of July Fun

We celebrated the 4th of July twice this year.  On July 3rd we had a mini fireworks show in our backyard.  The boys were involved with the fireworks in the yard while the girls sat on the porch and prayed they didn't set the house on fire.  Chase decided to join us on the porch when the fireworks got too loud.

On July 4th Brian took my parents and Chase to the Fort Hood fireworks festivities.  Before they left, Chase asked if Chloe was going to come along.

Chase: Is Chloe coming to see the fireworks?
Me: No, Chloe and I have to stay home.
Chase: Why?
Me: Because Chloe is too little.  She isn't a big kid like you are.
Chase: Well, let's put her back in your belly and then she won't get lost!

Too sweet, huh?  He loves his baby sister (so far)!

Anyway, Chase had tons of fun at the festivities!

The fireworks must have made quite and impact on him.  A couple days later he farted, looked at my "What do you say?" face and said, "That was a firework!"
